Sihle Mthembu
Executive Producer/Head Writer
Born in Mooi River in the Natal Midlands, in 2009 Mthembu enrolled into the Durban
University of Technology where he graduated with a B-tech in journalism. He has
worked as a scriptwriter, producer, director, art critic, and journalist. As a screenwriter Mthembu has written for and storylined some of South Africa’s top
shows.

From 2020 he worked as a producer for Cheeky Media where he was in charge of the conceptualising and production of daily live episodes of The Morning Show on eTV as well as season 6 of The Man Cave on Mnet. In 2017 he directed the documentary F is for father which received a Simon Sabela award nomination for best short documentary. Mthembu is co-author of Born to kwaito, a collection of essays on the meaning of kwaito music published by BlackBird Books. The Book was long listed for the 2019 Alan Paton prize for best non-fiction writing by the Sunday Times literary awards. Mthembu also created and directed the ten-part radio drama, The Second wife which aired on East Coast Radio. He is also the writer and director of The Confession, a six-part murder mystery radio drama which debuted in 2019. In 2023 Mthembu created and executive produced the SAFTA award-winning 1Magic sitcom Roomies, He is currently working on two new feature films funded by the KZN Film Commission called, Gideon and Betting on Football in addition to head-writing the SABC’s new 13-part dramedy, Dichipi.
